Tips To Look After Yourself As You Travel

When you travel, you also need to know that you are looking after yourself. Because if you don’t you can find yourself in a foreign country without any help and a lack of understanding of the local lingo. Although English is widely spoken worldwide, there are still places where it is not taught. So you need to look after yourself as you travel about.

Now if you are staying in a hotel on an all-expenses holiday, then you have a medical centre onsite and travel insurance to cover expenses. But if you are travelling abroad on a backpacking holiday, it is a totally different holiday and you will be short on space. So you need to take things that work as a generic product to save space.

Take Balloons To Help You

We all know that balloons are bad for the environment, but we are not going to blow these balloons up. Make sure you have some strong balloons and you can fill them with hot or cold water and use them as a pack for your aches and pains. If you have access to a freezer, you can even freeze a half-filled balloon for a better emergency cold pack.

Balloons are also good for anxiety if you are struggling to breathe. Blow into the balloon and then let the air come out. Then blow into it again. This will help you calm down and get your breathing back on track.

Put Chest Rub On Sore Feet

If you are one of these people that takes everything in their first aid box as well, then this is a tip for you. Chest rub is good to carry because people suffer from blocked noses in the summer as well as the winter – thanks hayfever. But chest rub isn’t just for chests. You can also rub your sore and aching feet with some chest rub before you go to sleep. Make sure you wear socks though because the chest rub is greasy and it will rub onto the hotel bedding.

Pre-Soak Insect Repellents

I am sure I am with the majority of people when I say that insect repellent smells vile. It needs to be if it is going to repel mosquitos and biting insects though. That’s how it does its job, but have you ever taken a bottle on holiday and it has leaked? When it leaks over your clothes in the suitcase, you are left with the sickly smell for the entire holiday. One way to stop the leakage and also to cut down on carrying a heavy bottle you can follow this tip. Pre-soak cotton wool balls with the insect repellent and seal them in a ziplock bag, then you just take one cotton wool ball out and use it as you need it. It is easier to target the vulnerable area, this way and you don’t choke yourself by spraying the spray.

Bicarbonate of Soda

Bicarbonate of soda has been used for generations of families to help with minor ailments and people still swear by it these days. When my kids were younger, I used to go to the pharmacy to buy bicarbonate of soda paste to put on infected cuts, stings and bites. It worked and it was called the magic stuff by the kids. Carrying a small amount of bicarbonate of soda whilst you travel will save having to carry so many other products.

Use 1 tablespoon of bicarbonate to 1 cup of water. Place the cloth into the solution and wring it out a bit. Then place the cloth over the burn area. It will cool it down until you get medical assistance. Always get burns checked out.

Make a paste of 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda into one teaspoon of water. Mix it to a paste and it will remove a bee sting, splinter or most other foreign bodies that are just under your skin.

Did you know that you can brush your teeth with it? You will see Bicarbonate of soda in the dental department these days. So if you are carrying bicarbonate of soda in your travel pack, then use that instead of carrying a tube of toothpaste around.

If you have sore feet, you can soak them in a mix of 1 tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda to a bucket of warm water. Place your feet in and relax your tired and aching feet.

The next time you go on your travels, challenge yourself to see if you can take things that have multi-purpose uses.
