STEM subjects are part of the core subjects taught at school and are amongst the ones that teach children some of the best skills that can be used in life. However, it is important to take learning outside of the classroom too and practice at home with your child. Not only does this strengthen their knowledge and skills, but it can also spark curiosity in them which will help with their education. Here are some tips from a middle school in Lucton on some easy ways to explore STEM subjects with your child.
- Start off from an early age. Exploring stem subjects doesn’t always have to mean sitting at a table and writing down information. It can simply be by helping someone fix household appliances or watching them change the oil in a car. Developing their love for how things work at an early age can be the reason that children then move onto exploring stem subjects further as they grow older.
- Science is one of the most fascinating subjects to all. The good news is that it is very easy to complete mad experiments at home using materials in the kitchen. You can do experiments to show them the response to reactions. You can even take them to your local library and introduce them to the abundance of funny and fascinating books on the shelves. The idea is to find entertainment and joy when it comes to teaching your child these subjects.
- Emphasise the different skills that can be attained from taking part in STEM subjects and exploring them further. It helps to develop curiosity, observation, creativity and problem-solving.
- Help your child build their confidence when it comes to STEM activities and fields. Children need to be exposed to these subjects and be able to explore the activities in order to satisfy their curiosity. This can be done by introducing them to computer games and coding.
- Send them to summer camps. Not only will your child be able to explore their interest in STEM subjects but they will get the chance to do something new whilst being around like-minded people.
